2018 Taichung World Flora Expo Opens

The 2018 Taichung World Flora Expo (A2/B1), approved by the International Association of Horticultural Producers (AIPH), opened in spectacular style on Saturday 3rd November.

Well over 20,000 people, including over 400 international guests, attended the opening ceremony which was broadcast live on TV throughout the region. Mayor of Taichung, Lin Chia-Lung highlighted the important role that the Expo will play in stimulating a focus on ‘GNP – Green, Nature, People’. Over 1300 performers from around the world provided high energy entertainment for all who were present for an event that highlighted the global importance of city greening.

Taichung City is one of the main, largest cities in Chinese Taipei. Titled “The Sound of Blooming”, the event gives visitors the opportunity to listen to nature and reflect on the intimate relationship between humans and the natural environment. The 2018 Taichung World Flora Expo boldly redefines ‘GNP’ as a new indicator of the value of the harmonious development of Green (green production), Nature (ecosystem) and People (humanity) in Taichung.

With the gates now open, the Expo offers visitors spectacular horticultural displays of blooming floriculture, stunning landscape architecture and magnificent floral art – most notably a giant mechanical flower sculpture. Spanning sixty hectares and expecting an estimated eight million visitors, this horticultural delight will create both a memorable visitor experience and a lasting legacy for the region. The event runs for six months, from now until 24 April 2019 when the site will be transformed into an international agricultural park.
